~ Rose: June ~

I'm a freelance medical journalist. I spend my days talking to physicians and my nights writing about their innovations and discoveries. I'm not an M.D.; I don't even have a bachelor's degree. I feel very privileged to be able to spend so much of my time helping these incredibly hard-working, dedicated people inform their colleagues about new ways to reduce recovery time, improve safety, and save lives.

It's just as much of a privilege to work on the Limesucker Project with a very different crew of incredibly hard-working, dedicated people. I've modeled before; some of the other models for the calendar have not, and I'm tremendously impressed that they were willing to bare all for a good cause. The production staff has gone far above and beyond the call of duty. We've all put in a lot of effort on some very tight deadlines because we know Heather is facing down the tightest deadline of them all. I'm proud and grateful to be a part of this.

My grandmother died of breast cancer. A dear friend died of lung cancer. Other friends are fighting it, or praying that remission will last. I've often wished I could somehow donate a portion of my general good health to them. I'm so glad to participate in this project because it is the closest I can come to making that kind of donation. There's something delightfully appropriate about harnessing the beauty of bodies to help people battling the most terrible sort of illness.

As you look through the calendar, appreciating the beautiful women in the photographs, I urge you to take a moment to appreciate your own beauty, and to make a commitment to taking care of your body. Ask your friends and family to take care of themselves, too, and to be vigilant and wary of signs of ill health. The best way to defeat cancer is to catch it early. Give generously to Heather and to cancer research groups, to help the people who are fighting that battle now. Then do whatever you can to make sure that you and your loved ones won't be fighting it later. The only thing better than nudie calendars to fight cancer will be winning that fight for good. With your help, we can do it.
