~ Liz : February ~

I am a 31-year-old, happily married, mother of one, and stepmother to two teenagers, as well. (Therefore, please do be kind, won't you?)

This project was an endeavor in which I knew I needed to participate because no one goes untouched by cancer. My mother survived ovarian and cervical cancers, as did her mother and grandmother before her. I have friends fighting right now with breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. And until the idea for The Lime Project came along, I thought there was nothing I could do to help any of them.

Cancer knows no gender, no age, no color, and no creed. It can attack anyone at any time, and those who suffer it need our help in whatever capacity we have available to give them. Every person is at risk, and every person diagnosed is one too many. I may not have a bank account of the Trump or Gates persuasion with which to write checks for research, but this was something I could do to help someone fighting this terrible disease.

My hope is that this project will spur others to action. I want to reach the people who think nothing can be done, the people who think they haven't the resources or wherewithal to do anything that might make a difference. We, the members of the Lime Project, are proof that there is always SOMETHING you can do. It needn't be money, and it can be as tame or as outrageous as you think necessary to accomplish your goal. All it takes is your time and energy.

It is also my hope that the time and energy of The Lime Project will result in a lightened burden for Heather so that her energy is spent where it is most needed - fighting off her cancer.
