There's huge risk involved in cutting-edge creativity, deciding to be different or becoming - and staying - the best. The exploration of creative, physical, systemic or personal limits involves discipline, drive, discovery and choice. Carole shares her fascination for the perceptions and management of risk and extremes by writing about them as an active freelance journalist. She specializes in personal fitness, adventure, action and extreme sports (especially the mental, physical and environmental aspects), dance (for creative and physical extremes and the development of physical resilience), extreme environments (and our management of them), global fragility issues, and risk (environmental, corporate risk management and other fragility issues that are important for the future resilience of our very lives).
After experiencing the 2005 tsunami (the calendar photo was taken just before it hit) and staying to help, Carole changed her life and career. Her new lifestyle gives her the opportunity to do the things she loves and the flexibility to make time for the people and causes she cares about.
Carole believes that risk management should be more than a trite phrase that summarizes corporate compliance, financial practice, or defense from harm. It's a way of thinking and living, of developing personal resilience through maintaining body and mind, of living in a way that reduces risk to the environment, of personal development, the appreciation of limits and perceptions, and the all too uncommon application of consistent, structured common sense and she tries to live to these beliefs.
She met Heather on moblog.co.uk, a web-based mobile phone photo-blogging community; it is a source of friendship and inspiration that she values immensely. Carole loves dance (especially tango), any sport or activity that pushes mind and body, rides by bike whenever and wherever she can, thinks she has the best job in the world and is wondering when she'll meet her match.
